Table · emission-factors

Emission factors

Scope 1, 2 and 3 emission factors in one table: the GHG Emission Factors Hub 2026 and eGRID2024 (Cornerstone releases of EPA methods), UK DESNZ 2026 conversion factors, Ember national grid intensity (1985 onward) and USEEIO v1.4 spend-based supply chain factors. Every row states its unit, gas, scope and GWP set.

Use the API

The examples follow the rows picked above. See the docs for versions, caching and errors.

curl

# All rows (.json or .csv)
curl -s "https://api.carbondata.dev/v1/emission-factors/table/all.json"

# The whole table in one file
curl -sO "https://api.carbondata.dev/v1/emission-factors/download/emission-factors.csv"

Python (polars)

import polars as pl

# All rows
df = pl.read_csv("https://api.carbondata.dev/v1/emission-factors/table/all.csv")

# The whole table
everything = pl.read_parquet("https://api.carbondata.dev/v1/emission-factors/download/emission-factors.parquet")

JavaScript

const res = await fetch("https://api.carbondata.dev/v1/emission-factors/table/all.json");
if (!res.ok) throw new Error((await res.json()).detail); // errors are problem+json
const { meta, rows } = await res.json();
console.log(meta.rows, rows[0]);

Downloads

The whole dataset in one file. Parquet keeps the column types and is much smaller.

Schema

Rows are identified by factor_id. The rows are also split into one file per value of source. Tables up to 50,000 rows also have a single table/all file.

Column Type Unit Can be empty Description
factor_id key text — no Stable, readable id: source, edition, category, activity, region, gas and activity unit
source partition text — no epa-hub, egrid, uk-desnz, ember or useeio
source_version text — no The publisher's release, e.g. 2026.01, eGRID2024 1.0.0, 2026 v1.2, v1.4.0
source_ref text — yes Where the number is in the source: Hub sheet, eGRID sheet.field, DESNZ factor ID or NAICS code
scope text — no 1, 2, 3, or outside (biogenic CO2 reported outside the scopes)
category text — no e.g. stationary-combustion, electricity, well-to-tank, business-travel, purchased-goods-and-services
activity text — no The activity in the publisher's own words
region text — no world, lowercase ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 (usa), US state (us-ca) or eGRID subregion code (CAMX)
region_type text — no world, country, us-state or egrid-subregion
activity_unit text — no The unit of activity the factor multiplies, e.g. mmBtu (the Hub uses higher heating values), kWh (gross CV), passenger-km, USD (2024, purchaser price)
gas text — no CO2, CH4, N2O, or CO2e for all gases the factor covers. A named gas with a CO2e unit is that gas's share of the CO2e total
value number — no Kilograms of the gas (or of CO2e) per one activity unit
unit text — no The value's unit, e.g. kg CO2/mmBtu, kg CO2e/kWh
gwp_set text — no IPCC report whose 100-year GWPs weight a CO2e value (AR4, AR5, AR6, mixed), or none for per-gas mass factors
valid_year year (YYYY) — no Year the factor applies to: the edition year (Hub, DESNZ), data year (eGRID, Ember) or dollar year (USEEIO)
notes text — yes Caveats from the publisher or about the scope label
